Badly rendered text

Hi,

The PDFs that one can find here http://www.chrisharrison.net/projects/wordassociation/index.html all render with text almost entirely hidden. I only see the bottom of the letters in every sentence. See the screenshot attached (the black rectangle covering the top of the screenshot is caused by a bug in the screenshot app; don't take that into account).

Can you find out what's wrong in the rendering code ?
I'm using the latest Debian sid on amd64.

Regards,
Benjamin

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using version 2.30 that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.

Hi,

I just tested evince 3.0.0 (with poppler 0.16.3) that I found in Debian experimental (I only installed it in a chroot) and I got the exact same problem. I'd like to know if you see it too. I can test other releases/patches if you want.

Regards,
Benjamin

I can reproduce this with :

$ rpm -q evince poppler
evince-3.0.2-1.fc15.i686
poppler-0.16.7-1.fc15.i686

Same here. xpdf works, this exact pdf worked with evince 3.2 AFAIR
Comment 5 André Klapper 2012-05-18 10:11:27 UTC
"worked with 3.2"? So far all comments were about 3.0.x so this would mean that the problem is fixed in an updated version? Providing the poppler version is also welcome, by the way. :)

Christoph, the issue you are having seems to be different. Anyway, you should submit your bug to poppler bugzilla (bugs.freedesktop.org component:poppler backend:cairo)

Benjamin, this seems like a poppler bug. Please redirect it to bugs.freedesktop.org component: poppler backend:cairo

The pdf attached is rendered fine with evince 3.4.0 and poppler/cairo 0.18.4.
I checked it side by side against acroread 9.

I am closing this bug as NOTGNOME. The bug was reported by Benjamin in freedesktop: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50701

FWIW, I can reproduce the bug with poppler-glib-demo. Therefore, not an evince bug.
