After closing the laptop lid and reopening it, the computer is unlocked and I don't have to enter my password to access my desktop.  This is insecure.  If I manually suspend, I have to unlock my desktop.

Please check the lock settings in System Setting's "Screen" panel - currently there's a bug which results in the setting being ignored when suspending manually (see bug 652327), but it's supposed to work correctly when closing the laptop lid.
