GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 650806
Better layout design / sizing and space usage for the importing file chooser's previewer widget
Last modified: 2015-10-20 13:29:46 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #586003 +++ When clicking "import", the file chooser now has a media previewer to make it easier for users to find what clip they want to import. Currently, users can make the size of the preview widget bigger by clicking the zoom in/out buttons. However, it would be more elegant and flexible if, instead of those buttons, the whole thing was inside a "hpaned" widget, and that whenever this widget is resized, the preview is resized to fit the available width.
So, AFAIK it's actually impossible to replace the zoom buttons by a draggable divider pane because in GTK we just call gtk_file_chooser_set_preview_widget() and let the child's width/size requests "force" the preview area to expand and contract as needed. But generally speaking, that's not the biggest problem... the biggest problem for me is that the whole preview area shouldn't be in a "column" anyway, it should be in a "row", because our content is fundamentall widescreen and would be much more space-efficient if it was laid out horizontally below the file list, I think. So I filed bug #740569 in GTK about this. If someone implements that, or provides a significantly better (third) alternative, beer will be provided.
