Within Gnome, follow the menu steps:

   Start Here 
-> System Settings
-> Service Configuration
Activate wu-ftp, Save, Close.

Then reboot.  There was a segmentation fault in the panel.  I could only fix it with a hard reboot.

After the problem occurred, I repeated it once.

Please try the latest (1.4.x) version of gnome-core and gnome-libs
