GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 649359
gnome-tweak-tool needs a distinct icon
Last modified: 2012-08-08 00:04:18 UTC
It would be nice if gnome-tweak-tool's icon is distinct from the system settings icon (a Fedora user filed a request for this in our bugtracker) https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700177
No objections here. If you find someone willing to draw me an agreeable icon then I will commit it! I have no skills to draw it myself.
Added request here http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/ArtRequests
I played around and threw together a couple of images from the default icons. The finished product seems simple yet effective. I made two; I'm unsure which would be best. Let me know what you think.
Can you attach theme here please?
Created attachment 198824 [details] Proposed Icon Here's one, just an overlay of a gear and the current icon
Created attachment 198825 [details] Alternative Proposed Icon Here's another but plays with perspective, which I thought looked pretty good too.
Sorry I put it on the wrong bug
Created attachment 210537 [details] [review] It is an icon build using the "T" Symbol is little tweaked. I have created this image for GNOME Tweak Tool. Please tell me for corrections and improvements.
the svg seems to be a little buggy for me, can you post a png?

Created attachment 210650 [details] a thread trying to tweak and make the boxes equidistant. new icon uploaded

Firstly, I think the name 'tweak' is too obscure to evoke any connection, so a more generic settings icon should be used. Secondly, the icon should be broadly similar to the style of existing GNOME icons.

Yeah, this is why I tried to combine some existing icons to form a simple, fitting and familiar, yet distinct icon. As well, it was the best and easiest idea I could come up without making the icon too esoteric or different. Gears usually imply more advanced mechanics and tools imply tweaking, simple enough.
Thanks . Let me try related to what you people said :)
Created attachment 210732 [details] GNOME Tweak Tool Icon Improved
Created attachment 210867 [details] new one that is typically better that the others i have posted. Hope this is helpful...
(In reply to comment #16) > Created an attachment (id=210867) [details] > new one that is typically better that the others i have posted. > > Hope this is helpful... Better, but I would aim to have the same look/tone as the gnome icons, both in colour and texture. As well the shadowing is inconsistent with the rest of the gnome icons. Good work so far though!
Created attachment 210889 [details] hope this is good enough. please see the attachment.

It looks like this icon have some jpeg artifacts or something similar(?). Regarding fitting it with the other GNOME icons it still needs some work. Please see these style guidelines: http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines
Created attachment 211944 [details] Worked for improvement. worked for removing jpeg artifacts. worked as i could on the styling guidlines. tell me if any more work is needed.

Created attachment 212719 [details] a new tool icon started working to create originals using inkscape in svg
(In reply to comment #26) > Created an attachment (id=212719) [details] > a new tool icon > > started working to create originals using inkscape in svg Is this icon still a work in progress? It looks incomplete on my end but I don't know if that's a rendering issue or intentional.
> Is this icon still a work in progress? It looks incomplete on my end but I > don't know if that's a rendering issue or intentional. If it helps at all in giving you ideas, look at the default gnome icon theme and the current icons to get an idea for colours, tones, shadows etc. Since gnome-tweak tool is a part of gnome, it should look distinct but along the same theme as the default icons. You could use parts of the current icons to inspire to add to the icon as well.
Created attachment 212730 [details] updated again..... updated making changes. 1. replaced a tool from the first version. 2. color palette related to tango guidlines. http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines 3.i have worked on from a current icon.
