Description cx42net 2011-05-02 12:17:41 UTC
Hi!

(first, I hope I choosed the right place to report this bug).

With dual screen extended and multiple desktops, the application located in the 2nd screen (the one that doesn't have the gnome panel on top) stay visible regarding the desktop I am (ctrl + up / down).

Say I have three desktops with :
* Desktop 1: Application a (fullscreen in screen 1), Application b(fullscreen in screen 2)

* Desktop 2: Application c (fullscreen in screen 1), no application in screen 2

* Desktop 3: Application d (fullscreen in screen 1), Application e (fullscreen in screen 2)

If I'm on Desktop 1, I can see app a & b. (CORRECT)
If I go to Desktop 2 (using the gnome shell or ctrl + down), I can see application c AND application b (that should stay on desktop 1). (INCORRECT)
If I go to Desktop 3, I can see application d and e (CORRECT)
If I return to Desktop 2, I can see application c AND application e, that should stay on Desktop 3 (INCORRECT).
Then if i return to desktop 1, I can see application a and b (b override e since b belongs to desktop 1 and e not). (CORRECT).

My os is :
uname -a : Linux home-computer 2.6.38.4-20.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Apr 28 23:32:48 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Fedora 15 BETA, Gnome 3, x64.

I hope I've been clear on my explanation. If you require more details, feel free to ask.

It appears that only the main screen is managed by gnome3, the second (maybe all the others?) isn't managed based on their desktop. (In the shell view, changing desktops affect the applications launched in the main screen while the application in the others screen doesn't move)

Nothing to do with the control-center.

And from your description, it's working exactly as designed.
Comment 3 cx42net 2011-05-03 11:45:17 UTC
You mean the behavior I have is the normal expected?

The description is a bit unclear, but probably yes. The designed behavior is to have workspaces only on the primary monitor (e.g. other monitors show all windows on that monitor regardless of the workspace).

"The designed behavior is to have workspaces only on the primary monitor (e.g. other monitors show all windows on that monitor regardless of the workspace)."

Ok well my "problem" is the expected behavior, but it feels un-natural to have just one screen that changes. I would be curious to know the reason of this behavior.

On gnome 2, a desktop was for all the screens, not the main one.
