We had that in the past (the icon was in the lower left corner) and removed it later.
Comment 2 Diska 2011-04-30 07:04:57 UTC
i think that when there's a lot of windows a big icon can help to find the right windows.

ps :the position was only for test.

extension version

You need to refactor it as a git-format-patch against gnome-shell-extensions if you want to integrate it.

Also, I think icons are better in some corner (lower-left?) of the thumbnail, not halfway at the top.

Please consider that some users requires to open lot of applications at the same time, then thumbnail is useless. See bug 651022 first part.
Comment 9 Diska 2011-05-25 17:28:14 UTC
useless?
Comment 10 Daniel Espinosa 2011-05-25 20:32:16 UTC
Yes, are too small to identify an application or the required thumbnail to swith to. See attachment (id=188546) of bug 651022 to see what I mean.
Comment 11 Diska 2011-05-25 22:45:52 UTC
sorry now i understand. what about work on icon size ?

icon can be like dash icon if size since size is too small then we can make it grow proportion with windows preview size.
Comment 12 Daniel Espinosa 2011-05-26 05:27:24 UTC
Yes. The icon could enlarge automatically when the mouse is over the thumbnail.
Comment 13 Diska 2011-05-26 12:38:32 UTC
i don't think icon resize on mouse over can be a solution.
We need to find a way to let people to choose right app without look all window one per time
Comment 14 John T. Folden 2011-05-30 22:27:49 UTC
I would really like to see this in Gnome-Shell proper rather than just as an extension. It applies directly to usability.
Comment 15 Diska 2011-05-31 06:20:00 UTC
i have few time , if you post some screenshot with new idea i will try to develop it when possible

Mockup for mouse over thumbnail with app'icon

In This muckup you can see lot of applications thumbnail showed by Activities View with app icon, one of them is larger because it (suppose) has mouse over it.

The problem here is that still the user can't see if this is the window he/she requires because the thumbnail size.

Then may to arranging App Centric seudo-toolbar on top or bottom of Activities View, with app icon, where if the user moves over it, all app's windows are shown with lucky the size is enough to identify the required window.

The problem doesn't finish here, because eventually the user falls in the problem showed by ALT+TAB behavior showed by bug #608946.

This seems to have stopped working in Gnome-shell 3.2

Get that an init is missing in lg.

Any chance of getting this official in the extension area?
Comment 24 Diska 2011-11-24 19:39:26 UTC
try to set your shell version in metadata.json.

i'm not sure if it can work with gnome-shell 3.2.
