Description Xavier Claessens 2011-04-18 11:38:49 UTC
I usually set firefox in the 2nd workspace. After a system upgrade, firefox said I need to restart it to apply new updates. Clicked the button and firefox closed, then gnome-shell closed the workspace, and finally firefox restarted on the last workspace.

After that, it is extremly unconvenient to get back to initial state, I had to move my firefox window to 2nd workspace where evolution was moved, then move evolution to 3rd workspace, then move xchat to 4th workspace, etc...

At the very least, gnome-shell should allow inserting a workspace between 2 existing one.

I think my request in bug 646409 would solve this.
Comment 2 Xavier Claessens 2011-04-25 12:12:59 UTC
In the particular case of firefox restart, that would still be a bit weird, IMO. But definitely a good improvement. Feel free to close a dup of bug #646409 if designers thinks that's the best we can do :)

However I would still like to have a way to spin some desktop so they won't be closed automatically.

Obsolete now that you can move "inbetween" workspaces in 3.4+.
