GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 647780
Banshee omits files when importing having "Copy files to library" option enabled
Last modified: 2011-04-14 17:16:27 UTC
Created attachment 185958 [details] Debug log recorded while the bug occurred Corresponding bug on Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/760565 +++++++++++ I am experiencing an absolute killer with Banshee that refrains me from using it. Importing does not work properly on my computer. Steps to reproduce: * Enable "Copy files to media folder when importing" and "Write metadata to files" in preferences * Take a few folders of music files * Import them What should happen: * All files should nicely show in Banshee's browser What happens instead: * As a matter of fact, not all files are imported. Some are just omitted * For example, of a 20 song album, only songs 1-5, 7-14, and 18-20 would be imported. I checked the folder on my hard drive where it copies the files to, and they also don't show up in there * Furthermore, some songs appear twice in the library. They are NOT copied twice into the folder, however * This bug is perfectly reproducable Workaround: * After having imported the files, manually drag and drop the missing ones into Banshee. They will be imported as expected, and even properly renamed and copied to your media library folder. Requesting critical importance for this one, as this might destroy an unconscious user's entire music library. I am quite happy I discovered Banshee did that BEFORE I wanted to delete my old music library. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annex: As an example, I tried to import Papa Roach's discography. It did not work, so I tried to delete all files from within Banshee again and try to reimport the files. The behavior was even stranger. Now it would not import any at all. See the video attached.
It looks like you have the Library Watcher extension enabled. If you disable that extension, does this problem still happen?
Interestingly not! That is a great workaround. I was just using the default installation on Ubuntu, so expected everything to work fine. Having heard at other places the this extension is creating problems, why is it enabled by default on Ubuntu 11.04?
I think Banshee leaves the extension off by default because of some of these rather severe issues. I would guess that Ubuntu decided to turn it on by default so that Banshee can be a more seamless replacement for Rhythmbox. Also, I think this issue is actually a duplicate of Bug 614171, so I revised the title of that report to make it more clear, and I'm closing this. Thanks for taking the time to report it, and don't hesitate to report any other bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 614171 ***
