Steps to repro: start gtk+/tests/testmerge, click on menubar to open a menu and, while hovering over its menu items, observe the window's statusbar.

Expected results: the statusbar shows the short descriptions of the menu items.

Actual result: the statusbar only shows the ellipsis character.

This is with gtk+ master as of today.

Notably, doesn't happen with 3.0.x, just master.
