GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 647035
resindvd: Add property to select preferred subtitles/menu/etc.
Last modified: 2018-11-03 13:07:55 UTC
It's currently impossible to select the favourite menu/audio track/subtitle languages for DVDs played, as resindvd will use the current system language as the favourite language in all occasions.
Right, currently it will use g_get_languages() and go through those in order to match them against what's available on the DVD. I think the main issue here is DVD menu selection? Audio/subtitle tracks can/should probably be done higher level (playbin)? Do we really need this configurable? Perhaps there should be GLib API to override this then? Or a global (app) setting in GStreamer?
I don't know exactly how it works when no language is explicitely selected in the menus. I would expect that, if there is a configuration on the user's side, to not use the user's languages, but whatever the user configured. It might get complicated when the user choices could be: - if the default audio track is in Chinese, select the Chinese audio track and subtitles in one of those languages I can read - if the default audio track is in English, show the English subtitles - if the default audio track is in French, don't show me anything I don't know how the configuration UI would work for that, but the easiest might be for a collect signal, pass in the audio and subtitle tracks available as soon as they are there, and let the front-end return which ones it wants to be played. But I don't know whether that would make it any different from waiting for the "tags" and switching the audio/subtitle track in the app...
