GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 646641
translation difficulties with "Top" and "Bottom"
Last modified: 2011-04-10 23:49:12 UTC
We have: #: ../src/dialogs/autofilter-top10.ui.h:6 ../src/dialogs/cell-format.ui.h:85 msgid "Top" msgstr "Oben" In some languages the translation of "Top" will differ for those two dialogs. For example in de the translation "Oben" is appropriate for cell-format.ui but incorrect for autofilter-top10.ui.h which creates a horrible autofilter dialog. The same applies to #: ../src/dialogs/autofilter-top10.ui.h:1 ../src/dialogs/cell-format.ui.h:28 #: ../src/wbc-gtk.c:3129 msgid "Bottom" msgstr "Unten"
The bigger problem is that autofilter-top10.ui stinks. In this case I think we can improve matters by combining the top/bottom and items/percentage combos, i.e., we could have the spin-entry for a number and a combo with choices of Items from beginning Items from end Percent from beginning Percent from end IMHO, etc.
Having a spin button followed by a combo would look okay in locales in which the number would normally proceed the noun but it will look strange in other locales. (Of course it would always look better tan what we currently have.) Perhaps the spinbutton should be completely separate from the type selection.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
