GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 646585
Use "per" instead of "vs." in report names
Last modified: 2018-06-29 22:56:08 UTC
Created attachment 185011 [details] Translations bugs and suggestions Some menu items in the pt_BR translation show up in English. Please see file attached for occurrences and suggestions.
You can contact the last translator for pt_BR. Just read the heading of the pt_BR.po file [1: the last translator is Dorneles Treméa that updated the file on 2011-01-08. Or you can translate it yourself (with a program like poedit [2]) and send back the updated file. In any case is better if you keep in touch with the last pt_BR translator to avoid doing the same work. Paolo, Dorneles et al. the problem is, our pt_BR.po file was last updated 2011-01-11. Currently it has pt_BR.po:3689 translated messages, 564 fuzzy translations, 316 untranslated messages. pt.po:1240 translated messages, 2255 fuzzy translations, 1074 untranslated messages. Hmm, pt.po is more weak. We are in need of one volunteering to update the strings in pt_BR.po Detailed instructions can be found in http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Translation
I see most of missing translations referred to in the attached presentation have been fixed in the current pt_BR translation. Looking at the revision history in git it appears the file received a major update in June 2014 to gnucash 2.6.3 strings. If you have translation remarks on the current translation, I propose you contact the last translator directly. What remains is your suggestion to replace "vs." with "per" in some of the report names, on the premise "vs." suggests antagonism and I have changed this bug's title to reflect that. I can't decide that unfortunately. I don't know whether "vs." is a common term in the English language to denote which date is set out on the two axes of a report. So I don't know if it's wrong nor whether "per" is better. A native English speaker should decide on this.
For the reports in question "by" would be a better choice than either "vs." or "per", but "vs." is better than "per". However, changing would break the existing translations and the benefit is infinitesimal.
Reassign version to 2.4.x so that individual 2.4 versions can be retired.
