It would be nice to use the XDG basedir spec directories instead of home for .gvfs.

Looks like the directory is used for mounts so I think probably http://library.gnome.org/devel/glib/stable/glib-Miscellaneous-Utility-Functions.html#g-get-user-runtime-dir is the one.
