The patch to ru.po

The Russian translation uses masculine gender for strings that may relate to any users, including females. This is especially noticeable on the main contact list view, where the default presence status labels are shown for many users. The attached patch tries to deal with the problem for presence statuses specifically.

As literal translations cannot be done in gender-neutral manner, I used some creativity. The translation for "available" uses "online" as the source term, same with the translations for "busy" which is taken from "do not disturb". As these terms are used interchangeably between various IM protocols and clients, I don't think it will bring much confusion. To translate "invisible", I use the noun (as in "invisibility") rather than the adverb; it is only used for setting the user's own status.

There are other places where gender is not used correctly, such as the translation for "%s has joined the room". But I could not come up with a wholesome way to correct them.
