GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 645729
Missing msgctx for several translatable strings
Last modified: 2011-09-13 22:35:21 UTC
Please add context to these strings so that they aren't considered the same: some languages need to translate differently feminine and masculine nouns, and this is not possible currently. (Also, the word meaning "small" for a threshold is not in every language the same as the one applying to text size.) #. small threshold #: ../panels/mouse/gnome-mouse-properties.ui.h:26 #: ../panels/universal-access/uap.ui.h:58 msgid "Small" #. large threshold #: ../panels/mouse/gnome-mouse-properties.ui.h:13 #: ../panels/universal-access/uap.ui.h:36 msgid "Large" #: ../panels/display/display-capplet.ui.h:3 #: ../panels/display/xrandr-capplet.c:327 #: ../panels/display/xrandr-capplet.c:366 #: ../panels/universal-access/uap.ui.h:44 msgid "Normal" As this is required for good translations, I think it's worth a string freeze break. Thus, tentatively marking as a 3.0 blocker.
Feel free to ask on gnome-i18n@ if fixing this would get two approvals... Personally I don't consider it a blocker but something worth to fix in 3.0.x.
Proposed on gnome-i18n and Johannes Schmid wrote: > I agree with Andre that it might not be worth a freeze-break at this > time. Yeah, nobody complied loudly on gnome-i18n about it, so I guess/hope it means no language is dramatically affected. For the record, the thread is http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2011-March/msg00301.html
Please reopen and fix this bug as it is really an issue for Slovak language (I did not catch that email thread). Thank you.
(In reply to comment #4) > Please reopen and fix this bug This bug report has never been closed so no "reopen" needed. :)

I'm afraid that the other strings should get context too, but this is 3.3 stuff anyway as we're under string freeze for 3.2 already.
(In reply to comment #7) > I'm afraid that the other strings should get context too, Why? Large and Small will already be differentiated by the fact that they have no context (and already have a translators comment). For "Normal" in the context of the Displays panel, we have the problem that we have 3 places to translate it, but it's the same word and context. > but this is 3.3 stuff > anyway as we're under string freeze for 3.2 already. Which we can request being broken.
(In reply to comment #8) I see. Thanks for elaborating!
Freeze break requested.
