GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 645391
Same icons for empathy and empathy-accounts
Last modified: 2012-10-12 14:11:28 UTC
This problem is accentuated by the application searching interfaces in Unity and GNOME Shell: When typing in the search string "empa" one is presented with two identical icons labelled "Empathy Internet Messaging" and "Messaging and VoIP Accounts" and it's not immediately obvious which one to pick. I think it would be helpful for users to have the icons visually different. Considering the awesome new icon[1] maybe replace the blue smiley with a blue wrench or something? Jakup: what do you think about this?
I am only guessing what "Messaging and VoIP Accounts" is where the user sets up his identity and login info for various IM and VOIP accounts. I think that part would be addressed by the user accounts system settings panel and thus not need a separate launcher at all?
Jakub's suggestion is also perfectly fine for me. That said - afaik the settings panel items are still defined in .desktop files and can thus be made searchable just like normal apps, which would again require a different icon?
I think "Messaging and VoIP Accounts" *is* the control center panel. This is similar to looking for "display" in the shell, you get the control center panel. The same icon with a blue wrench sounds good to me, fwiw.
The system settings panel I am reffering to is using two grey figures though?
That has been fixed in 3.6 by dropping the empathy-account menu entry if favor of the online accounts panels in system-settings: http://git.gnome.org/browse/empathy/commit/?id=e50bbed1c0ea00a62e22bd2ace2427fef4d65ada
