GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 644162
Settings for compression_level = maximum are not respected for .gz
Last modified: 2020-11-11 19:12:19 UTC
Compressing files to .gz using Nautilus/File-Roller does not use maximum compression even when compression_level was defined as "maximum". Steps to Reproduce: 1) Set compression_level maximum for File-Roller 2) Compress a testfile.gz file using Nautilus or File-Roller 3) Compress same testfile using "gzip -9 test". Actual Results: File size is smaller when using gzip -9. Confirm with "file test.gz": Only gzip compressed files are at "max compression", but not files from File-Roller. Expected Results: File-Roller should compress .gz files at maximum compression for gzip. Build & Platform: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS am64 Kernel Linux 2.6.32-29-generic GNOME 2.30.2 Additional Build: Ubuntu 10.10 am64 Kernel 2.6.35-25-generic GNOME 2.32.0
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time. If you still use file-roller and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/ Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (volunteer workforce and time is limited).
