Description saaz.rai 2011-03-01 06:19:11 UTC
Steps to reproduce this:
1) Apply the search filter in Sent Items folder.
2) Search results are shown correctly in the Sent Items folder.
3) Now without deleting the search content in the Sent Item folder, go to Inbox folder.
4) The same search filter applies in the Inbox even though the search box is empty. Thus it does not show all the Inbox mails as it is expected to as there is no search text entered in this folder but it show the filtered mails.
5) Only on deleting the search text in the Sent Items folder will all the mails show in Inbox.

Expected result:
Search filter entered in a folder should not apply to other folders. Therefore, search filter applied in Sent Items should not affect the Inbox or any other folder.

Evolution version: 2.32.2

OS: Ubuntu 11.04 Beta

Thanks for a bug report. I agree that it either may not inherit the search term or indicate it's using any properly. All this depends on Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->Apply the same view settings to all folders.

What do you have there, please?

OK, the option is not checked for you.
Comment 4 saaz.rai 2011-03-04 11:30:20 UTC
Yes, the option is not checked for me. This issue was not there in the earlier version of Evolution.

I hope this bug will be fixed by Evolution 3.0.

I must mention here that I'm using Evo 2.32.2 with evolution-mapi 0.32.1 to connect to MS Exchange 2007 in Ubuntu Natty. This is the first time that I've used Evo without any major crashes. Awaiting Evo 3.0 will all the improvements. Well done!!!

I tried this with just released 2.91.91 and either I have the above option checked or not, I cannot reproduce this, it behaves correctly for me, as far as I can tell.

I've been seeing this on and off for months. It doesn't happen all the time, but quite often. I can't find a way to reliably reproduce it or not reproduce it, though, it seems quasi-random, probably something to do with timing.

When it happens to me I workaround it by entering a search for ' ' (a single space character) and then deleting it, that does the trick without having to switch to whatever folder has the offending search filter set.
Comment 7 Adam Williamson 2011-03-07 23:31:11 UTC
btw, the folders in question are unimportant, it can happen with any folders, AFAICT. Not specific to Sent Items.
Comment 8 Matthew Barnes 2011-03-07 23:41:04 UTC
The next time this happens, if you exit Evolution and restart it I'd be curious to know if the search entry is still empty and if the correct results are now displayed for that folder. That will tell me if the bad search state is getting saved to disk. Might reveal some clues.
Comment 9 Adam Williamson 2011-03-07 23:51:11 UTC
Roger, I'll try and remember to check that.
Comment 10 Adam Williamson 2011-03-17 17:55:42 UTC
I just hit this again: restarting Evo 'fixes' the problem - the search filter box shows as empty, and all emails are displayed.
Comment 11 Adam Williamson 2011-03-21 17:17:39 UTC
I just hit an interesting bug which seems like it may be related to this - I was in one folder (Red Hat) with no filter applied, I switched to Sent, looked at a mail in that folder (using the preview pane) for a bit, then switched back to Red Hat, and it came up with a filter applied to it - a filter I'd previously applied to that folder some time earlier (yesterday, I think).
