GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 643120
Prettier gliphs for WHITE CIRCLE (U+25CB) and MEDIUM VERTICAL BAR (U+2759)
Last modified: 2011-10-11 12:58:06 UTC
Those are the suggested gliphs to use in GtkSwitch instead "ON" and "OFF" labels. Currently (on my system, at least) are provided by DejaVu Sans and are not so good when used inside GtkShitch (vertical bar is fat and "bold", white cicle is thin). PS the ones on gnome-shell menus are SVG images, see bug #639794
This bug affects all users using GNOME in languages other than English. So, the fix would be adding these two glyps (○ and ❙) to the Cantarell fonts, to avoid letting GNOME to substitute these missing glyphs from a different font.
Or... maybe a better fix for this issue is to push this bug upstream, and report to DejaVu fonts the weight difference between ○ and ❙. That will allow users to switch to another desktop typeface and still get the correct icons in GtkSwitch UI widget.
