GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 642948
Support image diff
Last modified: 2017-12-13 18:54:36 UTC
A great improvement of meld will be to diff images. A first approach should be to render the 2 images into 2 view without performing any correlation between them.

I made a bounty for this bug at https://www.bountysource.com/issues/1075639-support-image-diff This is my first bounty and I'm not quite sure how that site works, so apologies if this comment is somehow spammy. I decided to post this just in case :)
In addition to viewing the two images when clicked on, it would be handy to provide the thumbnail of the image in the local/remote window. This would provide a quick preview of obvious differences.
The hardest part of this is that it means that folder and VC comparisons will, instead of always starting a text file comparison will sometimes start an image comparison. Since these would be different tab types, etc. the knock-on effects in complicating the code are significant. Realistically, getting a side-by-side comparison view with no smarts isn't much work. However, the work to integrate it into the existing diff signals and tab launching infrastructure and the like is quite a bit of careful work.
