GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 642454
Mutter hangs when gnome-shell is started by gnome-session
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:19:30 UTC
Mutter hangs when opened directly by gnome-session (some early details here: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-shell-list/2011-February/msg00116.html). That includes: - Occuping 100% cpu (i.e. 1 busy thread, no I/O wait) - Not responding to TERM signal
I appear to be experiencing something similar. The first time a user logs into the account gnome-shell will work correctly. On the next login mutter is loaded which is expecting the gnome-shell to load and so I'm left with no way to load programs unless a terminal was loaded by default from a saved session.
Maciej: are you still having this problem? Brian: with current versions of stuff, you should not be seeing any process called "mutter". If you are, then either you have old packages and should upgrade, or else you have a bad mix of old and new stuff.
My guess is the reporter has the "auto save session" key on, and is thus hitting bug 645539.
I just have the gentoo gnome overlay installed which includes all of the newest released packages with the keywords and unmasks setup according to the overlay instructions. Other than that I'm running a stable gentoo arch. I think I should open another bug report on this but will wait on your response.
Sorry for delay. I experience this problem no longer. I had auto save session turned off. (I'm running ~amd64 gentoo + lot's of overlays + gcc 4.6 for maximum breakage ;) )
If I disable auto save session I don't have the problem. So my problem is most likely bug 645539.
Spring cleaning of my bugs. If it is likely to be bug #645539 then marking as duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 645539 ***
