GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 641844
some rtl variants needed
Last modified: 2011-10-13 13:08:29 UTC
gtk can use -rtl variants of some icons, here is a list. For most, there is an existing icon that can be used as the mirror variant, but some gaps remain: icon name mirror variant go-first go-last go-jump go-last go-first go-previous go-next edit-redo document-revert go-next go-previous format-indent-more format-indent-less format-indent-less format-indent-more edit-undo media-seek-forward media-seek-backward media-skip-forward media-skip-backward media-playback-start media-skip-backward media-skip-forward media-seek-backward media-seek-forward So, the ones where we could use dedicated -rtl variants are go-jump edit-redo document-revert edit-undo media-playback-start
[Removing GNOME3.0 target as decided in release-team meeting on March 03, 2011. This report has an "important" categorisation for GNOME3.0 but is not considered a hard blocker. For querying use the corresponding whiteboard entry added.]
What's the status of this? The most annoying are go-previous/go-next and media-* (also in symbolic theme). I'd like to help (even if just mirroring the existing icons), but I'm not sure how. There are many icons in the same file, and I'm not sure how to add an icon.
Addressed in git master in gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-symbolic. I chose to ignore the go-jump rtl variant as the directionality of the arrow doesn't really change the meaning. The icon works exactly the same for ltr even when flipped. One particular bummer is with edit-clear. In -symbolic it is directional and implies needing -rtl. However there is a metaphor disconnect from gnome-icon-theme where we use a sweeping brush which might be used in different contexts than clearing an entry field (which may not be a good thing). But that's for another bug.
