Description Alexey Levan 2011-02-03 18:58:27 UTC
Currently, when I'm trying to copy files from my USB stick to a hard drive with ext4 filesystem, for some of them I'm getting a messagebox "filename too long", and these files just skipped. To get all the files copied, I have to find all of these files, rename them and copy one-by-one, which isn't very convenient.

It would be much better if, when target filesystem doesn't support a filename, a user was given a way to rename file, so that copying task was fully completed.
Comment 1 Serhiy Zahoriya 2012-01-22 20:38:24 UTC
It still present in Nautilus 3.2.1.
It's very difficult to gather all these filenames to copy them by hand.
P.S. Why can't I change the bug status?
Comment 2 Fabio Durán Verdugo 2013-04-07 18:16:19 UTC
is this still a issues valid?
Comment 3 André Klapper 2021-06-18 15:28:59 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
