Description Jordi Mas 2011-01-23 10:47:16 UTC
The verbal analogies of type 'PairOfWordsCompare' are very error prone for translators and users.

For example:

<_question type = "PairOfWordsCompare">bridge / over | tunnel</_question>
<_answer correct ="yes">in | under | through</_answer>

For translators because makes them thing of all the possible translations in their language that sometimes has more possibilities than the English possibilities provideed.

For users because they can provide a valid answer not reconigzed by gbrainy, including sinonims and variations on the spelling.

The idea is to covert these problematic verbal anologies into multioption ones, where the user has to select a valid answer from a list.

Here's an analogy I just had:

Q: error : correct :: damage : _____
A: repair, fix

This example is especially confusing since correct is commonly used in English as a verb and as an adjective. Since I was thinking adjective, I could not get the right answer.

Thanks for the feedback

Agreed

What about replacing:

error / correct

by:

error / (to) correct

Would it make more clear that correct is used as verb?

Thanks,

Jordi,

Jordi, yes that would help but I agree with the original report that it seems easier for l18n if we make this into a list of answers. That is how several standardized academic tests that I've taken work too.

But coming up with 4 good multiple choice list answers for each question sounds like a lot of work!
Comment 4 Jordi Mas 2011-07-21 18:19:46 UTC
That's right, I actually made that comment. This is the direction that I want to take when I have the time.

Instead of changing the question, I think that I'm just going to accept these answer as valid answers adimiting that correct can be used as adjective of verb.

Jeremy, which answer did not accept when you tried?

Thanks,

Jordi,
