Description Luca Ferretti 2011-01-20 22:52:55 UTC
There was a short thread on gnome-i18n mailing list about new Power panel UI (and strings). You can read here: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2010-November/msg00093.html

Basically, splitting a long phrase like "Put the computer to sleep when on AC power and inactive for X minutes" in three pieces (and "sub-split" it into AC vs battery) could be not trivial to manage in some languages.

Suggestion proposed by jbowtie seems good [1], but an UI review could mayfe found and address more l10n related issues.

I've pushed an initial fix for the labels. As a new rule in GNOME3, I'm going to try and avoid making UI changes, and am asking the designers in #gnome-design for mockups instead. If you want to do UI review (which I agree is sorely needed) can you please talk to these guys. Thanks.

Fwiw, a similar discussion on the Gnome i18n only last September addresses a *very* similar issue as the one described here. Read the thread starting at https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2010-September/msg00020.html for more information.
