Package: panel
Version: 1.4.0.4
Severity:

>Synopsis: due to segmentation fault
>Class: sw-bug
System: ximian-gnome

>Description:
I can't get a panel to appear on the desktop.
I have tried re-booting, I tried re-installing ximian, nothing seems to work.

I can't even type "panel &" in a terminal, when I do i just get those little boxes that say "blah blah blah due to segmentation fault.

this seems to have started when the cable went out for a few minutes, and after I re-booted (because things weren't acting quite right, sticky, frozen etc)

if you delete ~/.gnome/panel.d/* you will probably get it back.

or upgrade to the latest versions.
