Description Victor Vargas 2011-01-12 19:17:41 UTC
This report was originally filled at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/387318

Should partial files be kept since they could not be resumed? Do they confuse users who think it might be a complete file. Should these programs use the Firefox approach of downloading to a .part file and then renaming?

Pidgin saves the file with its actual name to the location that the user specifies. Unlike other programs, pidgin does not use /tmp until the file is complete. The name of the file on the desktop does not offer any indication that it is partial. Removing a partial/canceled file does not remove the partial file. User is not properly notified of status of download.

Steps to reproduce:
Connect to msn
Get a buddy
Attachment sent from buddy
You accept attachment
Buddy cancels file mid way
Partial files are still kept instead of being automatically removed (clicking remove does not delete the partial or propose to delete the partial)

This is Empathy, not Pidgin. But yeah, while we don't support resume (bug #575976) there is no much point keeping those files.
Comment 2 Victor Vargas 2011-01-13 12:09:25 UTC
heh I know Guillaume, just was a comparation from the original reporter (also LP behaviour). by the way do you know if there is any plans to add this feature in a short/medium time?

PS: maybe you should mark this bug as a duplicate of 575976

Regards

Fair point, I'd rather implement resume support.
