Steps to reproduce
1. ./bin/pitivi, notice the Startup Wizard
2. Click New, notice the Project Settings window
3. Click Add, notice a new Preset has been added; click OK.
4. Project -> Project Settings, notice the "New Preset" is not selected, it should be selected.

I've been thinking the same thing, however I don't know how hard this is to implement... if you happen to have a patch for this, it would be great :)
