GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 638441
When I navigating new Mallard style help sections with Tab or Shift+Tab key, Orca spokening links with default slow speech rate
Last modified: 2011-01-16 12:36:13 UTC
Dear Developers, When I navigating new Mallard Orca help topics, Orca spokening links with default slow speech rate with system voice. I default using 90% speech rate, and not setted any speech rates different with hiperlink or system voice my profiles. I attaching the debug.out file, and attaching my user-settings.conf file. Perhaps this problem happening with new system voice migration with Gecko related, or the bug is the profile feature related I am not sure. The reproducation testing is very easy: 1. Set the default speech rate with 90%. 2. Open Orca general preferences TAB and click help button. 3. Navigating the links with TAB key. If you are lucky, you hear links not 90% speech rate, I think the used speech rate when Orca spokening link text and role name is 50%. I not see this problem with Firefox. Attila
Created attachment 177321 [details] Debug file to show this proble possible why happening
Created attachment 177322 [details] This is my user-settings.conf file This file containing my settings. Both default profile and another created profile the speech rate settings is 90% I think. Attila
Created attachment 178295 [details] Yelp application preferences file When I remove the .local/share/orca/apps/yelp.py* files, the problem is fixed. I not understand only following think: I not decreased directly with Yelp specific the speech rates with 80% speech rate, this is my Lucid containing orca directory. Prewious before profile support I only increased the default orca preference dialog the speech rate with 90% speech rate, this is containing my user-settings.conf file. Attila
Hmmm. If you did not directly change the settings in Yelp, I'm not sure what to tell you. Is this a problem that you can provide me with steps to reproduce? Or is this just some sort of weird thing that is resolved?
Prewious happened I think following: When Orca 2.30 version not yet unchecked default the grab focus on objects when navigating check box, I created an application preference for yelp with containing this change. This is resolved later, but I forgot remove this application preference file with my .orca/app-settings and later the .local/share/orca/app-settings directory. I think the problem is resolved, because I tryed again create now an application preference for yelp with following way: 1. Setted a slowest speech rate with Orca preferences dialog (Orca+space key combination, for example from 90% to 50%). 2. I launched Yelp. 3. I checked the grab focus on objects when navigating check box, important, don't change any speech parameter related setting with any voice characters. 4. I setted again back the speech rate with 90% (Orca preference dialog, not Orca application specific preference dialog). When I launch Yelp again, I hear links with fastest speech rate (90% speech rate). So, I think my oldest Yelp specific application preference file containing an incompatible setting with now used Orca git master version, or an unneed setting. I attaching the new created yelp application-specific setting file.

Okay, so.... Let me ask you this Attila: What, if anything, needs to be done regarding this bug that you opened?
No, this bug is not reproducable with new created Yelp Orca application preference file. Attila
