Comment 3 Bertrand Lorentz 2010-12-31 09:39:51 UTC
This is probably because your phone is not recognized as an Android device by Banshee.

For that, we need to know its USB identification codes (vendor ID and product ID). In order to get them, run "lsusb" in a terminal while the phone is plugged in, and paste the line corresponding to your phone.

Most Android phones have two product IDs, depending on a setting on the phone (something like "USB debug mode"). So try to get the two possible values.

ID 1004:61c6 LG Electronics, Inc.
mass storage mode
ID 1004:618e LG Electronics, Inc.
windows sync mode
this all my phone has on it

but that still doesnt explain why my blackberry curve worked before then it stopped after the bug was fixed

Comment 6 David Nielsen 2011-01-01 19:00:57 UTC
Can you please obtain a debug log.

http://live.gnome.org/Banshee/CommonQuestions/Logs

Also please insert your device and attach the output of

udevadm info --export-db

and

gvfs-mount --list

I have similar problem. I am using Natty. My android phone is HTC EVO 4G. Banshee used to work perfectly with my phone with playlist syncing but it just stopped recognizing my phone recently.
lsusb returns following.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bb4:0c8d High Tech Computer Corp.
Please see the attached logs. Thanks for your help.

Thank you both for providing the information we requested. However please do note:

Sudhirskhanger, if in doubt please file a new separate bug. It is trivially easy to mark a bug as a duplicate but already the readability of this report has gone down and we now have two separate Android devices (Niemans LG Vortex and your EVO 4G) not showing up in two different versions of Banshee (1.8.0 vs. 1.9.1) with no assurance that it is the same issue.

Also database debug logs should only be provided upon request as they are kinda big and unreadable not to mention that they do not add any information of value to this kind of issue. I have updated the documentation to make this clearer for future bug reporters.

niemann_1, please in the future attach large lumps of information such as logs rather than posting it inline. It makes the report very hard to read if you do not.

Your log does not include the usual information I would expect from Banshee shutting down, the GIO message it ends with is unfortunately expected, meaning we cannot be sure all the information is in there including any additional error messages. So please follow the instructions for collecting a log and attach it. It should produce a single file ready for uploading.

Also your multimedia key extension isn't loading, are you running KDE or something similarly not GNOME?

Subhirskhanger, please file a separate bug. Also it would be very helpful if you could try disabling the Apple Device extension when retesting, it looks like it may be interfering somehow.

see:
[2 Info 20:57:53.878] AppleDeviceSource is ignoring unmounted volume 21 GB Filesystem
[2 Warn 20:57:53.905] Caught an exception - System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object (in `Banshee.Dap.AppleDevice')
  at Banshee.Dap.AppleDevice.AppleDeviceSource.DeviceInitialize (IDevice device) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Banshee.Dap.DapService.FindDeviceSource (IDevice device) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

If disabling the Apple Device extension brings back your device, please do still file the bug and make a note of this. It should work with both extensions enabled. The output of lsusb as requested by Bertrand above is also very useful.

Finally for both of you, it would be very helpful if you could tell us what method of communication the phones normally uses, USB Mass storage or MTP, if you know.

I had a quick look at the MPI list and neither the EVO 4G nor the LG Vortex are listed. Ernst has been notified but it would be great if you both could collect as much of the information he needs to add support to media-player-info for both devices.

I have left a comment to have him examine this bug, hopefully he will find time shortly to work with you both.

Hello everyone,

I've added your two phones to m-p-i and the usb ids to usb.ids. Thanks David for notifying me.

@niemann_1 and Donnie Zazen

Would you mind sending me the usb ids of your phones with debug mode enabled (settings/applications/development/USB debug)?

Thanks

Thank you Jonathan, I will close this bug. If the devices do not show up after updating to an media-player-info version with those profiles, please reopen this bug.

My problem has been resolved. Please close the bug at your convenience. Thank you David, Jonathan Ernst and the Banshee team.

my android still isnt showing up anything im suppose to do like update something?
i downloaded the master mpi file but i have no idea what to do with it because i barely know any of linux codes
Comment 24 David Nielsen 2011-01-10 09:36:07 UTC
You'd need to update the media-player-info package. However when a version is released with support for your device is out is up to that project.

Jonathan and I are talking about the problem of getting such hardware enablement pushed out to distributions but for now I would recommend using his PPA and perhaps bribing him with a beer to release a build after your device information was added (currently the builds are 12 days old which would mean they do not contain the needed information).

see:
https://launchpad.net/~ernstp/+archive/ppa

If after such an upgrade your phone still does not show up, please let me know and we'll have a look at the problem.
Comment 25 Jonathan Ernst 2011-01-10 10:03:26 UTC
I asked Martin Pitt (the maintainer of m-p-i package for Debian and Ubuntu) to release a new version of m-p-i which he did and pushed to Debian and Ubuntu (I don't know about other distros). Let me know what distribution and version you are using and I'll tell you when it's available.

As for the ppa David linked, please note that it's not mine (the guy first name is the same as my last name, but I don't know him ;-))
Comment 26 niemann_1 2011-01-12 06:23:08 UTC
im using banshee 1.8 and xubuntu 10.10 (maverick) my computer is ancient it can barely run xubuntu lol
Comment 27 niemann_1 2011-01-13 01:43:26 UTC
i installed the mpi through jonathan's ppa and it still didnt show up but i did noticed its still mpi version 11 for maverick. So i just pretty much have to wait for mpi version 12 that has my phone id on there to come out if im right about that?

I got the lg vortex mpi installed but still a no go

I have restarted the computer and restarted banshee still not showing up
Comment 29 Sudhir Khanger 2011-01-13 07:44:51 UTC
For some reason Banshee now dumps all music in a single folder and doesn't sync playlist.
