Description michael grosberg 2010-12-26 10:16:07 UTC
the "value" layer mode, as is, is not useful for graphic work. Value does not map to any human-recognizable color term. In other photo manipulation apps, there is usually a "luminosity" color mode that applies the brightness of the new layer to the hue and saturation of the existing data.

I propose changing the layer mode to luma / lightness / luminosity (or adding another layer mode in that name if "value" is needed for some script) and for the compositing of this layer use the L value from the HSL color mode instead of the V from HSV.

you can read more about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSL_and_HSV#Disadvantages

this also applies to the paintbrush mode.

This is actually a duplicate, I guess the LCH Lightness layer mode does
the trick.
