GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 637874
Podcasting should support atom feeds aswell RSS
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:48:06 UTC
Unable to subscribe to a podcast atom feed. Very little needed to support this. Considering atom feeds are the preferred feed format for the future this should desirable. Rhythmbox already supports atom feed subscriptions.
Banshee:Ubuntu
I was starting to create a list of "easy improvements and existing feature requests) here http://live.gnome.org/Banshee/CommonQuestions/EasyContributionsAndHacks and someone kindly provided a valid test feed. test feed: http://forwind.net/podcasts.atom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atom_(standard) has additional information and examples for implementers to examine. Also feedvalidator.org is very useful for confirmation. We use it a lot for testing feeds for Podcast bugs.
totem parser fix that bug. bug 489491 is link. totem parser add other features and use a common parser for feeds...
I don't think Atom is really the preferred format for podcasts -- I've seen hundreds of podcast feeds, and never an Atom one (until this post). I think this is a fine enhancement request, but am not sure it needs to be an Ubuntu blocker. Olivier, we don't use totem-pl-parser, and switching to it would be non-trivial (and add another native dep which makes building on OS X/Windows harder).

It seems that mirocommunity uses ATOM as per bgo#649753.
(In reply to comment #7) > It seems that mirocommunity uses ATOM as per bgo#649753. I using a Google Reader to aggregate rss_feeds to single atom_feed with all my podcasts.

Is there any way around this? I just started using Banshee and three of my podcasts only offer atom feeds. This bug was filed two years ago and is still marked as 'NEW'.
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
