GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 637814
Video metadata fetching plugin
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:57:12 UTC
Create a plugin which takes the filename or title of a video file, and searches http://thetvdb.com/ and http://www.themoviedb.org/ and populates the library with correct metadata for each programme/movie. Optionally it could also rename the file in an aesthetically pleasing and consistent manner. Also I am not sure if it is possible or not to write some of the metadata to the file with certain containers or not, but if it is that would be cool too.
FYI, something similar has been implemented for Moovida, which is based on Banshee : http://www.moovida.com/ But I don't know if they plan to contribute back the code for that feature.
I'm aware of that, I'm the one who was bitching on the Moovida beta testers mailing list about it and had their CEO reply. https://lists.launchpad.net/moovida-betatesters/msg00048.html "the medata fetching plugin by example is not a simple tweak to banshee there is a lot of effort and coding on our side to get the best of a feature like this believe it is a real subject." Sounds to me like they consider the plugin to be an exclusive Moovida feature, and since it took considerable effort to implement they don't want to share their toy.
Oliver Dufoli is working on this: https://bugzilla.gnome.org//show_bug.cgi?id=631772#c2
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
