GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 637235
Brasero does not respect burn speed.
Last modified: 2018-09-21 17:11:51 UTC
I set it to 10x, 4x, 16x or 24x, but it always burns at max speed (Brasero shows the current speed and there's lots of noise on the drive). This is reproducible on DVDs Debian testing. This was the output (nothing suspicious) - brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Creating low level ECMA-119 tree... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Matching hardlinks... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Sorting the low level tree... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Mangling names... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Creating low level Joliet tree... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Sorting the Joliet tree... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Mangling Joliet names... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Computing position of dir structure brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Computing length of pathlist brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Computing position of Joliet dir structure brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Computing length of Joliet pathlist brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Reader thread being cancelled brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Starting image writing... brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Write volume descriptors brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Write Primary Volume Descriptor brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Write SVD for Joliet brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Writing ISO Path tables brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Writing Joliet Path tables brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Writing Files... brasero (libisofs)MISHAP : Image write cancelled brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Writer thread joined brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Reader thread being cancelled brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Writer thread joined (brasero:2753): GLib-WARNING **: GError set over the top of a previous GError or uninitialized memory. What happens if you use cdrkit instead of libburnia ?
I think I'm using cdrkit, that's cause in the plugin section the corresponding plugin in checked and greyed out.
It appears wodim is not being used. During the burning process, there's no such process. So Brasero is using libburn.
The bug has been confirmed by several other people on ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/656297
The same problem still exists for brasero 3.6.1 on fedora 18. I burned an iso file to a blank CD-R, and chose 8x as the writing speed, but it burned the CD with a speed of about 24x.
confirm.

Can you test build with cdrkit instead of libburnia ? http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=5540140
Confirmed, with DVDs, for Brasero 3.12.1 in current Debian Testing. brasero 3.12.1-1 libburn4 1.4.2-1 cdrdao 1:1.2.3-2+b1 growisofs 7.1-11+b1 wodim 9:1.1.11-3
