Description dfuser 2001-11-01 16:00:25 UTC
Package: sawfish
Severity: normal
Version: 1.4.0.4
Synopsis: GNOME Panel Crashed With New User Account
Bugzilla-Product: sawfish
Bugzilla-Component: Window Manager

Description:
Hello,

I am running Red Hat 7.2 with whatever GNOME version it comes with. I submitted a
previous bug report because GNOME crahsed when I attempted to log on with an
account that had GNOME configurations from Red Hat 7.1.

I removed all the GNOME directories in the directory, and even removed and created
the account with Red Hat 7.2 user management utility. It crashed both times. I made
sure I started with a clean home directory.

This is a serious problem because I am performing tests for the owners of our dental
company who are considering Linux to replace WYSE terminals & Windows systems
in 10 dental offices. They tried Linux a few years ago for their database server, but
its instablility failed to meet their requirements.

Fortunately, one of the owners is a Linux enthusiast. So that helped me to convince
the owners to use Linux as their firewall & server (DNS, DHCP, Mail & Web). I
have been successful with using Linux with the firewall & server project. Therefore,
they want to use Linux for their corporate workstations. I would hate to see this fail
because both of my counterparts in the computer department want to use Microsoft
Losedose (Windows).

The Linux enthusiast owner wants to use KDE in our dental office becuase it is
suppose to be better for users coming from a Losedose environment. So hopefully,
my test with KDE with will be more successful. However, I prefer GNOME and to
use GNOME as an alternative for users in the dental offices.

Please help me successfully deploy Linux in this company.

Thanks,
Gabriel Donnell (DentFirst User)
