Description Mike Alexander 2010-11-20 21:40:49 UTC
Some documentation should be written for the trading account feature added in version 2.4. Initially this could be a few brief comments with pointers to <http://www.mathstat.dal.ca/~selinger/accounting/tutorial.html> and <http://www.mathstat.dal.ca/~selinger/accounting/gnucash.html>. If the "Use Trading Accounts" check box is selected on the Accounts tab of the File->Properties dialog then GnuCash will use trading accounts more or less as described in those two pages.

I was looking in the concept guide for a chapter where to insert this notion. I don't know if it can fits in the currency chapter or capital gain or loss. Do you have some suggestions?

Patch to document new trading account feature

Here is a little patch with a note about the new trading accounts functionality. This feature will deserve at least a section for itself but for 2.4 release I thin this could be enough.
I think that the start of the currency chapter is the best position for this note.

Any comment?

Patch to document new trading account feature

Sure, this initial comment is an improvement over our current status.

Right, that's a start and better than nothing. I might change it to say "going to the Accounts tab" instead of "going in the Accounts tab", but this is a minor detail.

I've applied the patch to the guide with Mike's suggestion. In my opinion the bug could be left open in the hope that this topic will get his dedicated chapter or section in the GnuCash docs. So I will move the target to "future" as this issue could be considered solved for 2.4 release.

(we don't use the milestone "future" for now - by definition, everything should be done in future :-) ... removing milestone because of this.)
