Description Geert Janssens 2010-11-20 17:43:34 UTC
2.3.x introduced the tax report options in the Edit menu, when the Accounts tab is highlighted. Other than a mention in the Help manual section 4.2.1.2, I don't think I found more explanation about this option.

Should this still be added ?

I'm not too familiar with US tax returns. This command looks like it lets you map each of your accounts, one by one, to a US tax reporting category ... does this sound right?

Also, this feature seems like a setup for the Tax Schedule & TXF Report that helps US users do their taxes. It's mentioned very briefly in §8.4.2, step 10. As such, I suggest documenting it in the reports chapter. Am marking as dependent on the bug we have to track progress of the reports chapter, bug 633590.

Sorry, I mean in the Concept Guide, §8.4.2.

I have modified/enhanced the US Tax Report significantly during the course of the 2.4 development cycle. There was a prior version of the report and the tax report options in the Edit menu (the name was slightly different I believe) and these have both been heavily enhanced. I have also fully updated the documentation to reflect these changes - that is to say, all references in the Help to these items are current and accurate. I didn't necessarily add more documentation however, just made sure that was was there is current and accurate: this includes sections 5.4.1, 8.1, and 9.4 (specifically for the tax report options in the Edit menu). There were also descriptions of all menu items that I had updated that seem to have disappeared in the recent changes to the documentation.

As far as I am concerned this bug can be closed but I will leave it to Geert to agree and close it.

Thanks for your feedback. Apparently I completely missed the other sections you refer to. I must admit that I partly wrote this bug report because I saw mention of missing documentation on the list. I didn't investigate in depth.

I have looked at the documentation sections you refer to and as far as I can judge, they seem to be good. I don't use the US tax reporting features though, so I can't really comment on them.

I have only added two additional cross links in the sections that describe the menu entries (for some odd reason, the menus are explained multiple times, depending on which screen you are looking at).

With that, I think we can close the bug.
