GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 634085
Different make translations confuse Anjuta
Last modified: 2010-11-06 20:32:48 UTC
Johannes pointed me to possible differences between texts in the Spanish translation of 'make' messages and the texts expected by Anjuta, to be the cause for not jumping to the source file correctly on click errors. I asked my students to send me the 'make' output, and checked the make.mo for 'es' in my machine too, the the messages _are_ different for the Spanish translation of Anjuta (also es.po - not a country-specific version). So, I suspect that the either the Spanish translator of Anjuta did not check the exact text of the 'make' translation, or the translations of 'make' changed. anjuta.po: Entrando\\s+en\\s+\\el\\s+directorio\\s Dejando\\s+\\el\\s+directorio make.mo: (un-compiled with msgunfmt) se ingresa al directorio se sale del directorio Is there a way to determine if there are different translations for 'make'? John GNU Make 3.81 Anjuta 2.32.0
Moving to the spanish l10n product. As make is GNU software I think the translation shouldn't differ but maybe they changed.
@John: Yes, the translations are different. It was either I didn't see the comment or when I translated it, the comment wasn't there (probably the first option). Anyway, I translated that way because that's how it should be translated into Neutral Spanish; "make" for instance is translated into some Spanish from South America, not Neutral. In GNOME we do not have one language team for each variant of the Spanish language, we do not have enough manpower and we would like to think we can all use one single translation. I'll try to fix this ASAP. Thanks for your bug report.

I suspected as much, Jorge. I live in Argentina at the moment, and the 'make' messages sound very 'local'. Will you be proposing changes in the 'make' translation, or in Anjuta? Thanks for the work! John
@John: I guess I can find out about make translations, perhaps they're in translationproject.org, but the easiest and fastest thing is to fix them in Anjuta itself, so that's what I can do, and I hope to do it this weekend; so, yes, I'm proposing doing it in Anjuta. Thanks.
Ok Jorge, I'm not very knowledgeable about the whole translation business, and I thought you were 'near' the make producers. If you need a hand I could find out who is responsible, and help you out. John
John: I fixed this bug for master and gnome-2-32 branches, a new build would fix it. For "make" translations, you can check http://translationproject.org/domain/make.html and see who has done it. In fact, I could change that translation since I'm also a member of the translationproject, but it takes much more time for "make" to be included in the next release, in comparison to Anjuta or any other GNOME module. Anyway, I consider "make" translation a bit messy, but I do not have time to fix it. Closing the bug as resolved-fixed.
