Description Og Maciel 2010-10-20 02:16:52 UTC
The first thing I noticed was that, once you've logged in, imho it would make sense to take the user to his list (https://edge.tomboy-online.org/USER/notes/list/) by default. I don't think that having this url tied to the user's gravatar is something obvious to the end user and bring you to your list is the behavior I'd expect.

I'd actually prefer to just go to /user/notes/, which shows a note-looking page that tells you to sync. We could then update that page to have full setup instructions for Tomboy, Tomdroid, and Conboy.

When logging in again, you'd be brought to your most recent note, with your note list on the side, which is a very Tomboy-like experience.

Your approach makes total sense to me and the fact that it resembles the experience via the application itself only makes it even more so.

A few remarks:
* My first question was: "How do I sync?" - at a minimum including short instructions listing the server name to use in Tomboy, and how to do a first sync:

"To synchronise your Tomboy notes with Tomboy Online, open your Tomboy preferences, enable the Synchronisation add-in in the "Add-ins" tab, and in the Synchronisation tab, set the service to "Tomboy Online", and the server name to "https://edge.tomboy-online.org Then select "Synchronise" in the Tomboy menu, and your notes should be uploaded."

I would put this on either a "Help" page, which would be linked between "preferences" and "log out", or directly on the landing page - which could be either user/notes (if there has not yet been any sync) or on preferences.

* I didn't realise the Gravatar was clickable! It'd be really great to have a link for "Get to my notes" from the front page & from the preferences page, once I'm logged in.

* One last one: I"m an Ubuntu One user, and the Synchronisation tab is all set up already. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to just change the server name & resync. Are therte migration steps to follow, perhaps, for Ubuntu One users? Might it be an idea to document "Moving from Ubuntu One to Tomboy Online"?
