Description Cyril Arnaud 2010-10-14 18:23:59 UTC
I installed gnome-shell and gnome3-session in Maverick.
When I enter the GNOME 3 session, I have two mutter processes. gnome-shell doesn't start untill i kill on of the two mutter instances.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
mutter 2.31.5-0ubuntu9
gnome3-session 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
gnome-shell 2.31.5-2ubuntu2

I also installed gnome-shell 2.91 from git, no changes
After following didrocks advice (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/660272) i removed the saved sessions and made sure that the session will not be saved at logout (via gconf-editor /apps/gnome-session/options auto_save_session=false).
This solved the problem.
Now I can launch GNOME3 from gdm and gnome-shell loads properly at logon.
