importer: user confused about how to import photos to new directory
Last modified: 2015-12-18 14:42:03 UTC
When importing images from the camera, the user gets confused because there isn't anything to create a new directory. Apparently the only way to get a new dir is to use the custom date field, but this isn't easily undertandable. The user would expect a "create new folder" button in the gnome directory selection dialog.
Hi Paolo, I don't really understand your remark. What kind of new directory do you want to create? Can you give an example to clarify? Personally I have a 'Photos' directory. On import I want gthumb to create a new sub-directory with the photo date taken: for example: ./Photos/[2010-10-29] Cheers, Matthias
Suppose you have the ~/Photos folder, and you want to put the photos in ~/Photos/Birthday. The only way to create the Birthday folder is to put the name in the "file date" (or "current date") -> "custom format" -> field. This way you aren't using that input field according to what the ui says you, because the ui speaks of a date, and you don't want to input a date. This lets the user confused. Possible solutions: - let the user create a new folder with the folder selection dialog (logically working, but it needs many clicks) - add to the "file date"/"current date" drop down list another item "folder name", that, if selected, disables the following drop down list (but this wouldn't be anything automatic, so the user could get confused too) - add another option, below the "Automatic subfolder" group, to enter a subfolder
This is an old report, but the folder chooser does allow the creation of new folders using the "Other..." choice. I think that is good enough.
