Description Chris 2010-09-26 01:31:59 UTC
Some time ago I faced the problem of 'Evo' failing to empty trash at all and ended up with 1000's of emails in the trash folder. The fix was a work around at the time, however after a rebuild and upgrade to Ubu 10.04 I now find Evo 2.28.3 is doing it again...! Well nearly the same?
Evo current version now empties everything except Facebook emails, all from june to today? They are all the 'notification type'. This unbelievable, all the other
emails get deleted when using "Empty Trash" except Facebook emails - everytime?

So has anyone got a fix or recommendation for this problem?

Just checked a similar fault with evo "failing to empty trash on exit" as is set in settings.

Akhil

I've checked the link however one question. What are 'locally stored mail labels'??
Are these the Folder names where mail is stored in Evo or something else?

No - Still the same. Empty trash and everything goes, except Facebook notification emails! Will have to make time to try a work around and then wait and see if I get any other emails from F/B.

Has anyone else had this same issue with F/b emails??

Cheers

debfree, sure you follow this steps?

1-) Stop evolution completely with the command "evolution --force-shutdown"
2-) Remove the corresponding files with the file ending ".ev-summary" and ".ibex.index", in this example you should remove the file "~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ev-summary" and "~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ibex.index".
3-)Restart evolution, it will be slow to come up because it recreates the indexes.

Fabio

What are the consequences of this action? Will i loose my emails in folders? If I choose to 'backup' now before i action this, will trying to recover the backup re-corrupt the "fix" below??
Please advise.

Fabio - I see this action will recreate the index's ok. However the fault lays in the Trash folder. So when I try to locate the trash.ev-summary and ibex.index files - they are not present. So I presume that they are not created for EVo??
Anyone else got any ideas as i'm thinking of moving to Kontact!

Hi Karl
Yeh it's a bit of a 'pain' However as you can read this is still on going and yes to duplicates of similar nature! Same problem when exiting Evo, fails to empty trash as required in pref's. I've used Evo for 4years plus and have had a good run as a 'pim' however this fault is just never seems to be totally fixed in any version so far.

Well got so fedup with seeing facebook emails not being deleted at all so I ended up undeleting them all. Tried renaming Facebook folder and re-delete the Facebook emails and then delete folder, shock it wouldnt delete folder!
So re - undeleted all FB emails and went to file manager (show hidden files) .evolution/mail/local and found facebook, facebook.ev-summary and meta etc and deleted the lot!!

Hehehe that got it nuked!

Update.

I checked the trash again and sure enough it was packed and not emptying as re setting. So after using the command 'empty trash' was 'thrilled' to see it cleared up and dumped 99% of emails. Yep 1% left. And no, it wasn't facebook this time but a auction site here in NZ.

Ok in the evening today, did the 'empty trash' session and "Everything" went a full 100% clean.

Now if this can but remain stable then what ever that has changed or been updated has had some effect.

Karl I hope this is working for you now and others out there?
