log file from banshee while these two happened.

Banshee will hang once any item is played back. I can [kill -s QUIT pid of banshee] and the user interface comes back. Acts like it got stuck on gnome toolbar or something.

Usually after every video banshee will just exit of out program.

From the look of the thread dump, the hang looks like it's caused by bug #627441.
A fixed version might be available in the Banshee:Alpha repository, if you don't to compile from git :
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Banshee:Alpha

You also seem to have an old version of the StreamRecorder extension which is not compatible with Banshee 1.7.6. This probably doesn't have anything to do with your crash, but you might want to disable it just in case.

When those two issues are resolved, and if you still get a crash after playing a video, could you post another log file ?

I have this same problem, but on 1.7.6 on Ubuntu, even using the Daily builds.
Comment 3 Bertrand Lorentz 2010-09-28 15:14:19 UTC
Jeremy,
It seems the daily build for Ubuntu are having dependency issues, so they have fallen behind : the latest package seems to be version 1.7.6+git20100923, which is before the fix for bug #627441.
Which exact package version do you have ?

Could you follow the instructions at http://banshee.fm/contribute/file-bugs/ to get the log, and attach your log file here ?

The package I have is called 1.7.6-0ubunutu1~hyper1+lucid. I've attached the log of what happens when I don't use kill -s command, but try to close the window and get the message that it's not responding.

Comment 6 Bertrand Lorentz 2010-09-28 18:34:36 UTC
Jeremy,
That version means you're running Banshee 1.7.6 from the unstable PPA, not a daily build.

What problem are you experiencing, just a hang/freeze, or a crash related to playing videos ?

If it's just a hang, you're probably hitting bug #627441.
Please attach a log after running the "kill -s ..." command. The point of that command is get additional info in the log file (a thread dump), to see where banshee is stuck, so that I can confirm that.
Comment 7 Jeremy 2010-09-28 18:38:52 UTC
It is a duplicate of 627441, I'm told. I've upgraded to the newer banshee and that confirmed it on another thread. I'm also getting immediate crashes when I try to play videos but that's addressed in other threads. Is that a common problem being worked on?
