Description Frederik Elwert 2010-09-24 09:24:08 UTC
With Cheese 2.30.1 (Ubuntu 10.04) and an Logitech Webcam 9000, I cannot record more than one video in a row: After having recorded the first video, subsequent recordings are not possible.

1. When in video mode, cheese shows the “Start Recording” button in the center.
2. When clicking it, video recording starts and the button turns into “Stop Recording”.
3. When clicking that, video recording stops, and the button turns into “Start Recording” again. But this time, it is inactive (greyed out).

On the terminal, there is an error message printed, but I don’t know if it is related:

(cheese:3543): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_emit_valist: assertion `signal_id > 0' failed

A few days ago, I received an update via the Ubuntu package manager that contains a fix for this issue. And indeed, the record button is now usable after previous recordings.

However, I still find it impossible to record subsequent videos. Here are my observations:

1. When first recording a video, the video first hangs for some seconds. In the video pane at the bottom, a new icon for the video is added and a thumbnail is generated. After having generated the thumbnail, the video looks fluent again and recording works.
2. When attempting to record another video, no icon is added to the video pane when starting to record. It is added only after the recording has been stopped. It then fails to generate a thumbnail for the video. Totem reports a length of 0 seconds for this video (although it reports the correct length for the first one).

So it looks like there are still some things broken.

I think I have a related issue in Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64, Cheese 2.32.0, Logitech C300 webcam.

1. Start Cheese
2. Record a video : preview is displayed OK
3. Stop the recording : preview is stopped. Video file is thumbnailed OK. GUI is reponsive. When playing this video, it looks perfect.
4. Record a new video.... The preview below is empty. Then when trying to play the video file, I sometimes only get a file that is stuck at "00:00" and have to restart Cheese to record properly again. But there are definitely other variables at play I didn't manage to make out.

[I have actually 2 bugs : https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626689 : I have to choose the webcam in the PulseAudio input settings otherwise the GUI hangs and no video is recorded]

BTW I filed an Ubuntu bugreport here : https://bugs.launchpad.net/cheese/+bug/689599 (related to the latter)

I cannot reproduce this with Cheese 3.2.1 or git master. Can you reproduce this bug with the latest version?
Comment 4 Akhil Laddha 2011-12-08 09:20:24 UTC
Frederik, Mahendra, were you able to reproduce problem in latest cheese version ?
Comment 5 Frederik Elwert 2011-12-08 10:00:44 UTC
No, I am not able to reproduce this with Cheese 3.2.0. So the issue seems to be fixed.
