Editing text files over gvfs-ftp duplicates its content.
Before editing:
<Original file content>
After saving and reopening:
<Original file content
Modified content>

Removing original file right before saving modified resolves the problem.

Client:
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
gvfs, gvfs-backends version 1.6.1-0ubuntu1build1          

Servers:
ProFTPD Version 1.3.1rc2, 1.3.2, 1.3.3a

Text editors:
gedit
Kate
Bluefish
Notepad over wine

Does this happen every time?
yes

This bug is reported to exist about 6 months.
