GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 629802
Banshee does not load iPod properly (or transfer files)
Last modified: 2010-09-17 11:00:22 UTC
Hi, I'm having problems using my iPod (nano 5G) with Banshee. This hasn't work in ages, but I was anxious to try v1.7.5 because the release notes mention it's using libgpod instead of ipod-sharp (and gtkpod has always worked). Anyways, I installed all the relevant packages from the banshee-unstable PPA in my ubuntu 10.04 machine. The iPod's icon does show up, and a bar saying 'Loading ipod' does too, but nothing really happens. Trying to sync or move stuff to the ipod goes through the motions (copy files, etc.) but nothing shows up on the ipod upon disconnect. As it can be seen in the log below (which only includes trying to read the ipod) it seems to fail. Oh, and I'm running banshee with dbus disable because of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/637347 Best Regards, Carlos banshee --debug --disable-dbus ** Running Mono with --debug ** [1 Info 15:30:20.378] Running Banshee 1.7.5: [Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (linux-gnu, i486) @ 2010-09-12 04:57:59 UTC] [1 Debug 15:30:20.447] Initializing GTK [1 Debug 15:30:24.912] Post-Initializing GTK [1 Debug 15:30:24.994] Configuration client extension loaded (Banshee.GnomeBackend.GConfConfigurationClient) [1 Debug 15:30:25.025] Using default gconf-base-key [1 Debug 15:30:25.501] Core service started (DBusServiceManager, 0.004853) [1 Debug 15:30:25.509] Core service started (DBusCommandService, 0.005794) [1 Debug 15:30:25.793] Opened SQLite (version 3.6.22) connection to /home/cmoffat/.config/banshee-1/banshee.db [1 Debug 15:30:25.794] Core service started (DbConnection, 0.285304) [1 Debug 15:30:25.810] Database version 43 is up to date [1 Debug 15:30:25.903] Core service started (PreferenceService, 0.034728) [1 Debug 15:30:25.905] Core service started (SourceManager, 0.001941) [1 Debug 15:30:25.937] Core service started (MediaProfileManager, 0.000959) [1 Debug 15:30:25.946] Core service started (PlayerEngine, 0.008574) [1 Debug 15:30:26.008] Core service started (PlaybackController, 0.005605) [1 Debug 15:30:26.034] Starting - Hmmm, an NRE inside GPod.ITDB.get_Tracks (), seems like a libgpod-sharp bug, can anyone confirm?
Banshee needs to mount the iDevice before attempting to use it. I'll work on this one now. Out of interest, does your system normally auto-mount your ipod so you can browse it like a regular external harddrive? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 488149 ***
Hi Alan, It turns out something else had gone wrong, because not even gtkpod was working anymore. After I reset it with iTunes, this particular problem went away. Banshee still doesn't sync with my ipod, as described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/640090 Alan, would you like me to file a new bug report regarding the issue described in the ubuntu bug report? Thanks.

That is already reported as bug 629838.
