Description David Ayers 2010-09-09 10:54:50 UTC
I'm testing Ubuntu Maverick (10.10) and restored an evolution backup file create on Lucid (10.4). Mails and Contacts seem to restored correctly. I have multiple calenders of which 2 are local. The secondary local calendar was restored and recognized correctly. Yet I'm missing the entries of the main calendar. I'm also missing all notes and tasks.

Is there some update/transformation step required for restoring backups of older versions?
What is the suggested upgrade procedure?

Time being you can manually take bake up

Thanks for the feedback, but I can successfully backup and restore within a single version: i.e. I can backup and restore all elements in 2.28.3 successfully. I can also backup and restore all elements in 2.30.3.

What I could not do successfully is migrate a backup from 2.28.3 into 2.30.3, and I'm pretty confident that a manual tar/untar will not help here. I assume that the format of some of the files files have changed and evolution is missing some kind of mechanism to detect and convert the older format to the new formats.

... wait actually this bug may be invalid. I've just rebooted the VM with 2.30.3 to which I had previously restored the backup from 2.28.3, started Evolution an calendar entries, tasks and notes are there. So it seems that I had to completely restart Evolution (and possibly the data server) to get access to the restored entries.

So this report is not so much about the backup being incompletely restored, but more about automatically reinitializing/restarting everything that needs to be restarted after a backup is restored.

Closing as INVALID as nowadays the Backup/Restore plugin forces a restart of the application. Thanks for updating this ticket and sharing the problem with us!
