Description Bill 2010-09-09 06:25:30 UTC
Binary package hint: gnome-panel

  Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
  Release: 10.04

  gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2

- I expected to be able to change the alert settings using the default GUI.

- I was unable to change the alert setting from the default alert, I would click to fill in the bubble but it would not fill in. I
expected the radio selector to behave as normally, but it did not.

Comment 1 Vincent Untz 2010-09-09 07:48:25 UTC
I'm not sure which application this is about, but this is clearly not the panel. Maybe this is about the Ubuntu indicators. I suggest you open a bug in launchpad.
Comment 2 Bill 2010-09-16 14:30:18 UTC
Thank you for your time, I actually bugged this downstream on launchpad first but I mistakenly forgot to link back to launchpad on this upstream post.

Comment 3 Bill 2010-09-19 06:37:02 UTC
This has been identified as gnome-media, please reassign.
Comment 4 Bastien Nocera 2010-09-20 12:20:50 UTC
It's a downstream bug, there's no "Bubble" sound in gnome-media downstream.
Comment 5 Bill 2010-09-23 03:37:14 UTC
To my knowledge, no one claimed there was a "bubble" sound, I do not know where you got that from. The devs in #ubuntu-bugs asked that this be assigned to gnome-media. I would advise that you re-read the launchpad downstream report, this is a BASIC GUI feature that is broken, I don't know why the Gnome devs are so reluctant to try to work with the community to fix it.
Comment 6 Bastien Nocera 2010-09-23 10:51:42 UTC
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug.
Comment 7 Bill 2010-09-24 07:14:48 UTC
How to Reproduce:

All one needs to do is click on the sound icon in the system tray in the top right handside of the Ubuntu GUI then click "sound preferences." From there on the first tab, there is a sub screen that allows you to change the default alert sound for Ubuntu, there are 5 radio bubbles that indicate sounds which one can choose. I can highlight other options and hear the preview sound, but if I try to click the bubble, it will not fill and I am unable to change the alert sound.

This has been confirmed downstream.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633813

Please coordinate with Ubuntu developers for further information. Last time I checked this bug was being triaged.
Comment 8 Bastien Nocera 2010-11-16 15:50:08 UTC
There's no "bubble" (it's called a radio button) in the tree view any more for GNOME 3.x.

I'd be happy to know whether that still happens with gnome-media 2.32.x though.

Confirmed in Ubuntu 10.10:

Click System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects tab -> drop down Sound theme: and change to No sounds -> drop down Sound theme: No sounds and change to Ubuntu -> Bark radio button (notice drop down Sound theme: changes to Custom and radio button is different color with black dot in the middle) -> click Default radio button (notice Sound theme: changed to blank and Default radio button is different color with black dot in the middle) -> click Bark radio button (notice radio button with different color and black dot in the middle button remains on Default but Bark is highlighted and Bark sound plays).

This bug's Status should be marked REOPENED.
