Description Steven Black 2010-08-17 16:03:20 UTC
I would like the option to include the Track Artist only in cases where it is different than the Album Artist.

While it may make sense to just add this to bug #489861 we want to be able to have something like:

Album Artist/Album Name/Track Number. Track Title
Album Artist/Album Name/Track Number. Other Artist - Track Title

and *not*:

Album Artist/Album Name/Track Number. - Track Title
Album Artist/Album Name/Track Number. Other Artist - Track Title

This means we can't just have a field indicating "Track Artist If Not Album Artist", as that would leave the surrounding characters. We want to eat characters to the right when the field is empty (up to the next field).

I have no idea how this would be best added to the system.

This should be a general solution to the issue of Various Artists which will work without needing the ITUNESCOMPILATION id3 tag or equivalent. It will also allow compilations to have meaningful filenames while not producing the duplication of data you would get if you always used the Track Artist as part of the filename.

I'm marking this as depending on bug #489861, as the conditional syntax suggested there would allow to solve your issue.

The surrounding characters are not an issue, we already can have something like :
%track_number%. {%track_artist% - }%track_title%

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
